An Alert Social Worker Saves Elderly Sisters from Total Rip Off
BELLEROSE VILLAGE, NEW YORK, February 28, 2006, As reported February 9 by Sarah Wallace, Chief Investigative Correspondent with WABC-TV, NY, Yvonne Murphy of Beacon Geriatric Care Management helped save two elderly sister’s from losing their money and house, to an unscrupulous neighbor.
The sisters, Marie and Marian Rosemann of Woodside Queens entrusted a neighbor to do shopping, cook and pay their bills. The sister’s mistakenly signed papers they didn’t understand and gave the neighbor power of attorney. Soon large amounts of money (a total estimated at $200,000) was withdrawn from the sister’s bank account. In addition the deed to their house was changed to the neighbor’s name.
Yvonne Murphy, MA, LMSW, spotted unpaid utility bills, shut off notices and lack of groceries in the home. She alerted the Rosemann’s family as well as Adult Protective Services. This fast action saved the sister’s from loosing everything. The Queens District attorney’s office is now investigating the case.
